    Chamonix Golf Course                                        Mer de Glace

 

Chamonix is located in the French Alps and is famed for its extreme skiing and rock climbing. Chamonix boasts a range of mountain holiday activities including hiking, biking, and viewing the magnificent, breathtaking Mont Blanc massif. More extreme pastimes include rock climbing, for the beginner in the indoor sports centre and the training wall at Les Gaillands, just a short walk from the house, and for the advanced, the ascent of Mont Blanc (a 2 day trip undertaken with a mountain guide) Also on offer for the adventurers are ice climbing, white water rafting, canyoning, mountain biking, Hydroglisse, parapenting.

The Richard Bozon sports centre has two indoor swimming pools with a long spiral waterslide, a sauna and hammam plus a weight training room and keep fit.. There is allso an indoor skating rink,  and tennis and squash courts.

In Les Houches you can learn huski sledging at Huskidalen ,or explore the trees and woodlands in Arbres Aventure.

In Chamonix centre there is a bowling alley and a cinema, numerous bars, restaurants, casino, discotheques and shopping. A market is held at the Place du Mont Blanc every Saturday morning.

The Montenvers rack and pinion train takes you up to the Mer de Glace, from the arrival station you can visit the ice grotto carved into the glacier, the the alpine fauna exhibition and the crystal gallery.

The one hour journey on the Mont Blanc tramway, the highest rack railway in France offers a glimpse of the different alpine levels and the splendours of the Mont Blanc massif.

17km of footpaths designed for walkers, run alongside the cross-country ski trails.                                                

For golf enthusiasts,  Chamonix Golf Course, designed by Trent Jones Senior is set between the Mont Blanc range and the massif of the Aiguilles Rouges. It is a 6076m long, par 72 course, and has a driving range and putting green.

Numerous cable cars take you up the mountain, including  the Aiguille du Midi one of the highest cable cars in the world,  which takes you to 3842m in two sections, giving a unique view over Mont Blanc and the alpine panorama.

Panoramic helicopter flights can be taken to view the mountain range. 

The alpine museum houses a permanent exhibition of the history of mountaineering and skiing, mineralogy and fascinating documents concerning the valleys past.
